Since the coup d’état of 23 November 2025, the leader of the PAIGC, Engineer Domingos Simões Pereira, has remained under intense political persecution by the regime, in an apparent attempt to prevent him from carrying out political activities through the use of the judicial system. He was placed under house arrest on 31 January 2026 after being released from prison, where he had been detained following the military coup of 26 November 2025. On Friday, 10 July 2026, he was transferred to the cells of the Second Public Order Police Station in Bissau by order of the Investigating Judge. He subsequently left the country to receive medical treatment and arrived in Lisbon, Portugal, in the early hours of 24 July.
The case of General Daba Na Walna remains ongoing and reflects the political and military persecution taking place in Guinea-Bissau. The Supreme Court overturned the general’s pretrial detention order, but the same Investigating Judge subsequently reversed that decision, creating a legal deadlock and maintaining pressure on opposition figures and military personnel accused of subversion.
On the other hand, Mr. Carlitos Costa, a senior PAIGC official, was abducted, beaten, and abandoned on the night of Saturday, 25 July 2026, at around 10:00 p.m., by five armed, masked individuals. His assault is directly linked to his opposition to the constitutional referendum scheduled for 30 August 2026. Shortly before the attack, he had broadcast a live video on social media urging citizens to vote “No,” which was interpreted as a challenge to the transitional authorities.
Perseguição aos adversários políticos e militares subversivos, uma realidade em progresso na Guiné-Bissau
Desde o golpe de Estado de 23 de novembro de 2025, o líder do PAIGC Eng. Domingos Simões Pereira, continua sob forte perseguição política por parte do regime e numa tentativa de impedir o exercício da atividade política utilizando o poder judicial. Ele foi colocado em regime de vigilância domiciliária a 31 de janeiro de 2026 , após deixar a cadeia onde esteve detido na sequência do golpe militar de 26 de novembro de 2025, na sexta-feira, dia 10 de julho de 2026, às celas da Segunda Esquadra da Polícia de Ordem Pública, em Bissau, por ordens do juiz de Instrução Criminal, Dr. de tratamento no país e na madrugada do dia 24 de julho chegou a Lisboa, Portugal. O processo de Daba Na Walna continua em andamento e reflete a perseguição política e militar na Guiné-Bissau. O Supremo Tribunal anulou a prisão preventiva do general daba Na Walna, mas o mesmo Juiz de Instrução Criminal reverteu essa decisão, criando um impasse jurídico e mantendo a pressão sobre opositores e militares acusados de subversão.
Do outro lado, o Senhor Carlitos Costa, dirigente do PAIGC, foi raptado, espancado e abandonado na noite de sábado, dia 25 de julho de 2026, por volta das 22h00, por cinco indivíduos armados e encapuzados. O seu espancamento está diretamente ligado ao seu posicionamento contra o referendo constitucional de 30 de agosto de 2026. Pouco antes da agressão, ele fez um direto nas redes sociais apelando ao voto “não”, o que foi interpretado como um desafio às autoridades de transição.
