Event Summary
On the morning of 7 February 2026, the Casa dos Direitos – which serves as the headquarters of the Guinean League of Human Rights – was once again closed, and the Ambassador of the European Union, Mr. Federico Bianchi Antília, and the Attaché for Cooperation, Justice, Gender and Human Rights, Mr. Carlos Abaitua Zarza, while on a guided visit to the building, were unexpectedly expelled by a group of armed and hooded Rapid Intervention Police officers, without any explanation or legal grounds for such action. This sad episode follows the invasion of the Casa dos Direitos on 22 and 23 December 2025. It should be noted that the Casa dos Direitos Consortium is currently holding the Human Rights Fortnight, which was supposed to take place in December but was postponed to February due to the coup d’état that interrupted the general elections.
This event is a continuation of the context surrounding the general elections held on 23 November 2025, which were suspended by the military, allegedly as a measure to restore order, national security, stability, and to combat drug trafficking. Since the Casa dos Direitos hosts activities of civil society organizations, it has become a target of the dictatorial regime. In other words, the objective is to shut down the Casa dos Direitos as a way to reduce the Guinean League of Human Rights’ capacity to act, continue the persecution of organizations that criticize the regime, and silence all voices that denounce human rights violations, abuses of the law, and attacks on democracy.

Na manhã do dia 7 de fevereiro 2026 a Casa dos Direitos voltou a ser encerrada e o embaixador da União Europeia , senhor Federico Bianchi Antília e o Adido para a Cooperação, Justiça, Género e Direitos Humanos, senhor Carlos Abaitua Zarza, quando estavam a fazer visita guiada no edifício foram inesperadamente expulsos por um grupo de Policias de Intervenção Rápida armados e encapuzados , sem apresentar qualquer explicação ou fundamento legal para tal atuação. Este episodio triste vem na sequencia da invasão da casa dos Direitos nos dias 22 e 23 de dezembro de 2025. De salientar que o Consórcio Casa dos Direitos, está a realizar neste momento a Quinzena dos Direitos Humanos, que devia ser organizado no mês de dezembro, devido ao golpe de Estado que interrompeu às eleições gerais foi protelada para este mês de fevereiro.Este evento é a continuação do contexto das eleições gerais realizadas no passado 23 de novembro de 2025, que foram suspensas por parte dos militares, alegando medida para restaurar a ordem, segurança nacional, estabilidade e luta contra tráfico de drogas. Pois, como a Casa dos Direitos acolhe atividades das organizações da Sociedade Civil e também é a sede da Liga Guineense dos Direitos Humanos, tornou alvo a bater por parte de um regime ditatorial, ou seja, o objetivo é fechar a Casa dos Direitos como forma de diminuir a capacidade de intervenção da Liga Guineense dos Direitos Humanos, continuar a perseguição das organizações que criticam o regime e silenciar todas as vozes que denunciam as violações dos direitos, atropelos às leis e a democracia.
