On 2 June 2026, Bob Mengome was urgently transferred from Libreville Central Prison to the Omar Bongo Ondimba Military Hospital after his health deteriorated. His family revealed that he was suffering from high blood pressure and called for transparency regarding his medical care as well as a statement on his current state of health. He was also reportedly the victim of an attempted forced removal by prison security officers on the afternoon of 7 June 2026. The operation was reportedly halted by the military doctors present; they are said to have prohibited any removal of the prisoner, judging that his state of health did not permit his return to detention.
