Since the 26th and 27th of November 2025, the country has been facing major challenges in terms of the prohibition of democratic exercise and the lack of transparency in the elections, with the arrest of political figures, namely the leader of the PAIGC, Engineer Domingos Simões Pereira; Dr. Otávio Lopes; PAIGC official Roberto Nbesba; PRS official; five magistrates, namely: Mário Iala, Cipriano Naguelim, Romelo Barai, José Badó, and Quintino Inquebi; as well as members of the CNE Secretariat (National Electoral Commission), who were monitoring the vote-counting process at the National Electoral Commission. At this moment, according to RDDH-GB’s information-gathering mechanism, there are 18 detainees.
Guinea-Bissau was in the process of general elections, with the announcement of results scheduled for November 27. On the 26th, a coup d’État was carried out by the military, who called themselves the “High Command for the Restoration of Security and Public Order.” According to RDDH-GB’s information, on November 29, several arrests and beatings took place against young people who took to the streets to demonstrate and demand the announcement of the electoral results. There was also a wave of persecution targeting the presidential candidate with the intention of arresting him, and the military even invaded and vandalized a family’s home in the Háfia neighborhood in Bissau, claiming they had received information that candidate Fernando Dias da Costa was hiding in that residence.
The environment remained hostile due to the actions of the military, even after candidate Fernando Dias da Costa fled to a safer location to ensure his protection. Meanwhile, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) sent, on 1 December 2025, a high-level delegation to Bissau to mediate the political-military crisis that has unfolded in the country following the elections.

Desde o dia 26 e 27 o país está a enfrentar grandes desafios em termos de proibição do exercício democrático e transparência das eleições com detenção das figuras politicas, nomeadamente, líder do PAIGC, Engenheiro Domingos Simões Pereira, Dr. Otávio Lopes , Dirigente do PAIGC, Roberto Nbesba, Dirigente do PRS, cinco magistrados a saber: Mário Iala, Cipriano Naguelim, Romelo Barai, José Badó, Quintino Inquebi e os membros do Secretariado da CNE [Comissão Nacional de Eleições], que estavam a acompanhar o processo de apuramento dos resultados eleitorais na Comissão Nacional das Eleições. Neste momento através de mecanismo de coleta de informação da RDDH-GB são 18 detidos.
A Guiné-Bissau estava no processo das eleições gerais e anuncio dos resultados das eleições marcado para o dia 27 de novembro, no dia 26 houve a consumação de golpe de Estado por parte dos militares, que autodenominarem-se de « Alto Comando para Restauração da Segurança e Ordem Pública», no dia 29 de novembro houve várias detenções e espancamento dos jovens que saíram a rua para manifestar e exigindo o anuncio dos resultados leitorais, como também onda de perseguição do Candidato Presidencial para a sua detenção e os militares tiveram que invadir e vandalizar a residência de uma família no bairro de Háfia em Bissau, com alegação de receberam informações do que o candidato Fernando Das da Costa estava escondido nessa residência.
Pois, o ambiente continuou hostil por parte dos militares, mesmo com a fuga do candidato Fernando Dias da Costa para um lugar mais seguro no sentido de garantir a sua proteção. Do outro lado, a Comunidade Económica dos Estados da África Ocidental (CEDEAO) envia esta segunda-feira, 1 de dezembro de 2025, uma delegação de alto nível a Bissau para mediar a crise político militar instalada no país após as eleições.
