Since 2015, Venezuela has been facing a humanitarian emergency exacerbated by a restrictive political context. In 2024 and 2025, new laws such as the NGO Law and draft laws such as the Anti-Fascism Law limited civic space, affecting freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly. Media closures, harassment of journalists, arbitrary detentions and repression of protests were documented, especially after the 2024 presidential elections. International cooperation was reduced, making it difficult for social organisations to remain sustainable. Despite official stigmatisation and digital restrictions, civil society remains committed to defending human rights and providing humanitarian assistance.
