Environmental and community organizations, through the Nonguén River Basin Governance Roundtable and the group Maule Sur por la Vida, expressed their opposition to the decision. Leaders announced protests, a complaint to the Comptroller’s Office, and legal actions before the Second Environmental Court. Meanwhile, the Association of Municipalities of Biobío also challenged the ruling. Municipalities in the Biobío region are also on alert to file new complaints with the Environmental Court.
El 29 de julio de 2026, el Comité de Ministros rechazó los recursos de invalidación presentados contra el proyecto eléctrico Mataquito, que busca conectar las subestaciones Itahue (Maule) y Hualqui (Biobío) mediante una línea de transmisión de 406 kilómetros que atraviesa 22 comunas, tres regiones y 170 localidades, afectando a más de 40.000 hectáreas. Organizaciones ambientales y comunitarias, a través de la Mesa de Gobernanza de la Cuenca del Río Nonguén y del movimiento Maule Sur por la Vida, expresaron su rechazo a la decisión. Sus dirigentes anunciaron protestas, la presentación de una denuncia ante la Contraloría General de la República y acciones legales ante el Segundo Tribunal Ambiental. Por su parte, la Asociación de Municipalidades del Biobío también impugnó la resolución. Asimismo, municipios de la región del Biobío se mantienen en alerta para presentar nuevas reclamaciones ante el Tribunal Ambiental.
