Event Summary
On 6 July 2025 the local and municipal councils were dissolved in advance of their terms’ end, with temporary committees appointed to work in their place. The argument then was that the government was preparing a new local administration law, which required transitional arrangements until the new legislation is enacted and new elections are held. After dissolution, the law requires elections within 6 months of dissolution, however, on 12 January 2026, the Cabinet of Jordan announced that local and municipal council elections would be postponed 6 months more from 7 January 2026.
