On 8 June 2026, the administration of José Antonio Kast confirmed that the President met at La Moneda Palace with U.S. tech magnate Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal and founder of Palantir Technologies. The meeting was not recorded in the President’s public agenda nor reported through the transparency mechanisms established by the Lobbying Law. The confirmation came after an official request was submitted by Congressman Gonzalo Winter (Frente Amplio), who demanded information about the meeting.
The General Secretariat of the Presidency (Segpres), led by Minister José García Ruminot (RN), refused to provide details on the content of the conversation, citing the inviolability of the President’s private communications. Thiel, described as “the most influential right-wing intellectual of the past 20 years,” had arrived in Chile in late April 2026 and also met with economist José Piñera and Congressman Johannes Kaiser.
The opposition has called the government’s lack of transparency “unacceptable” and has demanded to know the topics discussed in a meeting with such a prominent figure.

El pasado 8 de junio, el gobierno de José Antonio Kast confirmó que el Presidente sostuvo una reunión en el Palacio de La Moneda con el magnate tecnológico estadounidense Peter Thiel. El encuentro no fue registrado en la agenda pública presidencial ni informado a través de los mecanismos de transparencia establecidos por la Ley de Lobby. La confirmación se produjo después de una solicitud de información presentada por el diputado Gonzalo Winter, quien exigió detalles sobre la reunión.
La Secretaría General de la Presidencia (Segpres), encabezada por el ministro José García Ruminot, se negó a entregar detalles sobre el contenido de la conversación, argumentando la inviolabilidad de las comunicaciones privadas del Presidente. Thiel, descrito como “el intelectual de derecha más influyente de los últimos 20 años”, había llegado a Chile a fines de abril de 2026 y también se reunió con el economista José Piñera y el diputado Johannes Kaiser.
La oposición calificó la falta de transparencia del gobierno como “inaceptable” y exigió conocer los temas abordados en una reunión con una figura de tal relevancia.
