On 15 April 2025, the Cabinet for Civil Society (GASC), under the office of Timor-Leste’s Deputy Prime Minister, announced the first list of 77 recipients in the “Religious Confessions and Congregations” category, selected to receive funding based on their submitted proposals. Further results for the “NGOs, Foundations, and Associations” category are expected by late April or early May 2025. This follows an open call for proposals issued by GASC in December 2024, inviting NGOs, CBOs, Foundations, Associations, and religious groups to apply for funding to support their strategic activities, such as construction, governance, and community training. GASC aims to ensure equitable access to funds, focusing on areas like civic education, governance, and institutional empowerment within Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) networks. GASC annually provides $6 million in grants to 145 civil society organizations. This initiative reflects ongoing support for strengthening civil society in Timor-Leste.
