On 15 February 2026, the detained activist Ayman Sanduqa received a final sentence of 5 years in prison by the Jordan Court of Cassation on charges of ‘incitement to oppose the political regime’ (Article 149 of the Penal Code). The case stems from a Facebook letter Sanduqa wrote in October 2023, addressing the King of Jordan and criticising Jordan’s relations with Israel and calling for the annulment of the Wadi Araba peace treaty. This initial sentence under the Penal Code was first issued by the State Security Court in January 2025, and now has been definitively upheld. This ruling is the final step of a case previously reported by EU SEE, in which the State Security Court reinstated its original felony conviction after the Court of Cassation had downgraded the charge to the lesser offense of insulting the king.
