On 21 September 2026, in the case of the State of Cameroon v. REDHAC, Me Alice Nkom and Ms. Maximilienne Ngo Mbe, respectively Co-Chair of the Board of Directors and Executive Director of REDHAC, the courtroom of the Douala-Bonanjo Court of First Instance (TPI) hosted the hearing for the delivery of the judgment, including the pronouncement of the final decision.
Initially scheduled for 1:00 p.m., the hearing began at 3:35 p.m., when the judge arrived. In the absence of the State’s representative and the two defendants, the judge gave the floor to the Public Prosecutor, who presented his closing arguments. He asked the court to find Me Alice Nkom and Ms. Maximilienne Ngo Mbe guilty of the charges brought against them, namely “breaking seals, joint participation in rebellion, and other offences.”
Taking the floor again, the judge immediately proceeded to read out the decision, setting out the reasons for the ruling. The decision included the following:
-
Regarding REDHAC: The summons served by a bailiff was declared null and void because it did not contain the legally required information.
-
Regarding the charge of “joint participation in rebellion”: Me Alice Nkom and Ms. Maximilienne Ngo Mbe were found not guilty and acquitted on the grounds that the alleged offences had not been established.
-
However, regarding the charge of “breaking administrative seals”: Me Alice Nkom was found guilty and sentenced to one (1) year of imprisonment, suspended for a period of five (5) years. She was also ordered to pay a fine of five hundred thousand (500,000) CFA francs, as well as sixty-two thousand (62,000) CFA francs. However, in view of her age, and as provided for under Cameroonian criminal law, no imprisonment in lieu of payment may be enforced against her.
At the conclusion of the ruling, the President of the Court reminded the parties that they had ten (10) days from the date of the decision to appeal if they were dissatisfied with the judgment.
- S’agissant du REDHAC, l’acte de citation délivré par voie d’huissier a été déclaré nul comme ne comportant pas l’indication des mentions légales exigées ;
- Sur l’infraction de « rébellion en coaction », Me Alice Nkom et Madame Maximilienne Ngo Mbe ont été déclarées non coupables et relaxées pour « faits non caractérisés » ;
