Event Summary
On 23 February 2026, Rapid Support Forces (RSF) intelligence arrested several women activists following their participation in a workshop on women’s rights held in Nyala, South Darfur State. Those detained included broadcaster Ishraqa Abdelrahman; Dr Manahil Mustafa Al-Sanousi: Director of the Al-Manhal Centre for Training and Capacity Building; radio presenter Zahraa Mohamed Al-Hassan; and Mawahib Ibrahim and Izdihar Abdelmoneim Hamid. The arrests were conducted at the women’s homes by individuals in civilian clothes, using combat vehicles. The event was organised as part of an initiative by “Journalists for Peace” and “Natakallam”, with 25 people in attendance. The agenda included discussions on women’s rights as defined by national laws and international conventions, with particular emphasis on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. As of 10 March 2026, the arrested women have not yet been released and remain in detention.
