Arrest of protestors during demonstration calling for the release of Al-Soumoud Flotilla activists

On 19 September 2026, a demonstration brought together several hundred people in Tunis to call for the release of four activists from the Al-Soumoud Flotilla: Wael Nawar, Ghassan El Henchiri, Ghassan El Boughdiri and Nabil Chennoufi. During the night of 20 September 2026, the defence committee announced that around 15 people had been arrested, including participants or individuals linked to this protest. Thirteen people had been taken into police custody, including one minor. At that point, the lawyers had not yet received any specific information regarding the charges. As of 23 September 2026, Samar Tlili had been released, whilst Khalil Labidi and Mothafar Alomar were still in police custody.

The Tunisian General Labour Union, the National Bar Association of Tunisia and the Tunisian League for the Defence of Human Rights have called for the release of those arrested and reiterated the importance of freedom of expression, assembly and peaceful protest.

Le 19 septembre 2026, une manifestation a rassemblé plusieurs centaines de personnes à Tunis pour réclamer la libération de quatre militants de la flottille Al-Soumoud : Wael Nawar, Ghassan El Henchiri, Ghassan El Boughdiri et Nabil Chennoufi. Dans la nuit du 20 septembre 2026, le comité de défense a annoncé qu’une quinzaine de personnes avaient été arrêtées, parmi lesquelles figuraient des participants ou des personnes liées à cette manifestation. Treize personnes avaient été placées en garde à vue, dont un mineur. À ce stade, les avocats n’avaient encore reçu aucune information précise concernant les chefs d’accusation. Au 23 septembre 2026, Samar Tlili avait été libérée, tandis que Khalil Labidi et Mothafar Alomar étaient toujours en garde à vue.

L’Union générale tunisienne du travail, l’Ordre national des avocats de Tunisie et la Ligue tunisienne pour la défense des droits de l’homme ont appelé à la libération des personnes arrêtées et ont réaffirmé l’importance de la liberté d’expression, de réunion et de manifestation pacifique.
