In October 2026, the Hong Kong Pride Parade Organising Committee announced the cancellation of its upcoming “Rainbow Market,” originally scheduled for November at Central Market. The committee stated that the venue management (Chinachem Group) pulled the booking, citing an “administrative error” that allegedly resulted in a double-booking.
Historically, Hong Kong held a major Pride Parade every year, serving as a cornerstone for LGBTQ+ visibility and rights advocacy. However, organisers had not been able to hold a physical Pride Parade since 2019. In an attempt to maintain community visibility, organisers pivoted to hosting indoor markets since 2021.
This year’s cancellation marks the second consecutive year the committee has been forced to cancel even a depoliticised commercial event due to sudden venue issues. In November 2025, their planned outdoor festival at the Kwun Tong Promenade was similarly axed after authorities abruptly notified them the venue could not be used.
