On 31 August 2026, Lebanese animal-rights activist Ghina Nahfawi appeared at Bourj Hammoud police station for the third time that month in connection with her online advocacy on the Dora puppy-abuse case. Nahfawi had reportedly used her social media account, alongside other accounts, to circulate a video showing alleged abuse of a puppy and draw public attention to the case. Megaphone reported that during questioning she was asked about comments that other users had posted on her post, and that she was released on a residence undertaking while questioning of others continued.
It is reported that the complaint against her accuses her of encouraging unwanted telephone calls. Nahfawi denies directing those calls. In an earlier public video account, she described the disruption that the repeated summonses have caused to her life. She also said that the police had acted professionally and that the judge had shown concern for freedoms.
Repeatedly questioning an activist about comments posted by third parties on her post raises concern that complaints and summonses may be used to pressure people who publicly expose alleged wrongdoing online. Such pressure may discourage activists and ordinary citizens from documenting and sharing evidence of abuse, narrowing the space for civic participation and public scrutiny.
