On 24 or 25 August 2026, lawyer and political scientist Harotsilavo Rakotoson (former Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice under former President Marc Ravalomanana and founder of the Manajary Vahoaka party ) was detained at the Fiadanana gendarmerie research section in Antananarivo for “undermining state security,” without any official reason being given. The arrest appears to stem from comments he made two weeks earlier on the AOTRA podcast , where he discussed the extent of ” bizna ” (corruption) in public life. It is part of a series of actions targeting critical voices since the beginning of the transition, following the repression of Gen Z activists in March 2026 and the detention of Colonel Patrick Rakotomamonjy.
The case sparked outrage within civil society and the opposition, perceived as yet another illustration of the shrinking space for critical expression in Madagascar.

Les 24 ou 25 août 2026, l’avocat et politologue Harotsilavo Rakotoson (ancien secrétaire général du ministère de la Justice sous l’ancien président Marc Ravalomanana et fondateur du parti Manajary Vahoaka) a été placé en détention provisoire à la section d’enquête de la gendarmerie de Fiadanana (Antananarivo) pour « atteinte à la sûreté de l’État », sans qu’aucune raison officielle ne soit avancée (Mondafrique, 25 août 2026).
