On 1 June 2026, the Institute for Agricultural Development (INDAP) sent an official notice to the PRODEMU Foundation announcing the end of the “Rural Women” program, which both institutions had been implementing under an agreement for 34 years. The decision, part of budget cuts by the government of José Antonio Kast, prevents new participants from joining the program in 2026, leaving thousands of women who had already been identified and approved to participate in limbo.
Fabiola Cayla, president of the National Union of PRODEMU, estimated that 3,000 women nationwide could be left without the program, including 300 in the Los Ríos Region alone, in addition to the layoff of 60 staff members. The organization ANAMURI (National Association of Rural and Indigenous Women) expressed its “disappointment at the lack of response from the authorities” and denounced that “there is no political will to rescue the foundation from its financial crisis.” The decision has been described by organizations and women leaders as a “major setback” and an “abandonment by the State” of women in rural Chile.

El 1 de junio de 2026, el Instituto de Desarrollo Agropecuario (INDAP) notificó oficialmente a la Fundación PRODEMU el término del programa “Mujeres Rurales”, que ambas instituciones ejecutaban en conjunto desde hacía 34 años mediante un convenio de colaboración. La decisión, enmarcada en los recortes presupuestarios impulsados por el gobierno de José Antonio Kast, impide el ingreso de nuevas participantes al programa durante 2026, dejando en la incertidumbre a miles de mujeres que ya habían sido identificadas y seleccionadas para incorporarse.
Fabiola Cayla, presidenta del Sindicato Nacional de PRODEMU, estimó que unas 3.000 mujeres en todo el país podrían quedarse sin acceso al programa, incluidas 300 en la Región de Los Ríos, además del despido de 60 trabajadores y trabajadoras.
