On 16 June 2026, the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan On Amnesty was signed by President Emomali Rahmon. Under the 2026 Amnesty Law, over the next two months, 18.038 convicted persons, most of whom are serving prison sentences, are expected to be either released or have their sentences reduced.
Among those reportedly benefiting from the sentence reductions are journalists and bloggers who had previously received lengthy prison terms on various criminal charges, including Abdullo Gurbati (7,5 years), Zavqibek Saidamini (7 years), Abdusattor Pirmuhammadzoda (7 years), Daler Imomali (10 years, 4 months), Khurshed Fozilov (7 years), Rukhshona Hakimova (8 years), and Ahmad Ibrohim (10 years, 4 months). In some cases, relatives speaking on condition of anonymity have indicated that the reductions could lead to release in 2026, while others are expected to remain in prison despite the sentence reductions.
