Government of Ghana Launches National Gender Policy (2025 – 2034)

On 4 March 2026, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, launched the National Gender Policy 2025–2034 at a national conference in Accra as part of activities marking International Women’s Day. The policy was presented as a new framework to expand equal opportunities and improve the social, legal, civil, political, economic and cultural conditions of women and girls in Ghana. It replaces the previous 2015 policy, which expired in 2020 and is intended to guide national action on gender equality over the next decade.

The launch brought together government officials, parliamentarians, development partners, civil society actors and other stakeholders. The policy was developed through a review process that included stakeholder consultations and validation workshops across the country. It serves as a roadmap for gender mainstreaming, improved institutional coordination, stronger accountability, better data systems and greater support for vulnerable women and girls. The policy also seeks to promote women’s economic opportunities, access to justice, protection from violence and discrimination and increased participation in public and political life.
