DefendDefenders and AfricanDefenders are setting up a national coalition of human rights defenders (HRDs) to support HRDs in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. To this end, these partners aim to establish a national coordination mechanism to strengthen the protection and resilience of HRDs in the country. The launch ceremony, which will be preceded by the publication of the DefendDefenders and AfricanDefenders report on the situation of HRDs in the DRC, will take place on 30 April 2026 in Kinshasa. This unifying initiative is a first, given that efforts on the ground had not yet achieved this level of success. The event aims to strengthen coordination and resilience among civil society actors. It will bring together provincial and local networks within a national framework, giving HRDs a stronger and more legitimate voice for advocacy and protection.
Mise en place de la coalition nationale des défenseurs des droits humains en RDC
DefendDefenders et AfricanDefenders mettent en place une coalition nationale de défenseurs des droits humains (DDH) afin de soutenir les DDH en République démocratique du Congo. À cette fin, ces partenaires entendent établir un mécanisme national de coordination visant à renforcer la protection et la résilience des DDH dans le pays. La cérémonie de lancement, qui sera précédée de la publication du rapport de DefendDefenders et AfricanDefenders sur la situation des DDH en RDC, aura lieu le 30 avril 2026 à Kinshasa. Cette initiative fédératrice est une première, étant donné que les efforts sur le terrain n’avaient pas encore atteint ce niveau de réussite. Cet événement vise à renforcer la coordination et la résilience parmi les acteurs de la société civile. Il rassemblera les réseaux provinciaux et locaux au sein d’un cadre national, donnant aux défenseurs des droits humains une voix plus forte et plus légitime pour le plaidoyer et la protection.
