Event Summary
On 2 September 2025, the Ministry of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Affairs in Algeria launched the digital platform Himayati, designed to support women affected by violence by enabling secure reporting, offering advice, and connecting victims with relevant institutions such as police, justice, and health services. This initiative is part of the national strategy to protect women and promote their rights, and it complements existing support mechanisms by expanding access through digital tools. The platform is viewed as a meaningful step toward improving institutional responsiveness and coverage for survivors of gender-based violence. By institutionalizing digital access to support services, the government demonstrates a commitment to strengthening coordination and transparency in addressing violence against women. If effectively implemented and maintained, this platform could enhance trust between citizens and institutions, empower victims, and reinforce civil society’s role in advocating for gender justice.
Civil society organisations are encouraged to engage with the platform early, to advocate for its accessibility and responsiveness and to monitor its integration into institutional workflows.
