Event Summary
On 24 July 2025, the Oran wilaya trade union council of the CNAPEST (Conseil National Autonome du Personnel Enseignant du Secondaire et Technique) denounced the arbitrary precautionary suspension of several trade unionists, including their wilaya coordinator, Mr A. Rahmane Fitas. These measures were taken following the participation of those concerned in peaceful protests organised as part of a national intersyndicale. These actions were aimed at challenging the serious imbalances contained in the new teachers’ statute, which the Ministry of Education has finally recognised and which is currently being revised. Despite this progress, the activists are being unjustly punished, which constitutes a direct attack on trade union rights and freedom of expression. The CNAPEST is calling for the immediate lifting of the sanctions and for investigations into the administrative practices and corruption denounced in the Oran education department.
