On 6 May 2025, Jordanian security forces arrested Hamza Khader, a Jordanian activist and coordinator in the BDS (Boycott, Divest, Sanctions) Jordan movement. The activist has not advocated the use of force. The arrest was reportedly made under provisions of the 2023 Cybercrime Law regarding Khader’s social media posts advocating for a boycott of Israel. Khader is currently held in detention at an unknown location, with no official information yet released about his arrest.
This arrest is part of a pattern in 2025, wherein varying kinds of political activity in support of the Palestinian cause have been constrained (see the other alerts published).
BDS Jordan has issued a statement condemning Khader’s arrest.
