Parents and family members of activists continue to face police harassment in Hong Kong. On March 18, 2025, Hong Kong national security police took in the stepfather of self-exiled activist Tony Chung for questioning. According to local media, he was brought in to “assist in the investigation” of Chung’s suspected national security offenses.
Police confirmed bringing in a person but stated no arrest was made. Tony Chung previously served a prison sentence for inciting secession before fleeing to the UK in December 2023 after being allowed to travel to Japan.
